I don’t know about you but 2020 was extremely eye opening for me. I have determined to make 2021 a different year for me, a better year. I want to gain a little more control in every aspect of my life…
My health, money, relationships with my loved ones, and day to day decisions. I cannot stand when things are out of control in my life. I am not naive, I know things will spiral a little, but even then I believe, with better planning, the spiral will be less intense and the time lost will be minimal.
I have always been goal oriented and a planner…
I budget everything, make a list for every event/trip, I even keep a daily to do list that I will write out the night before so I can see what needs to be done the next day and I can hit the ground running.

In January, I aggressively started on this path of self development, seeing what I can learn and do to improve myself by using my spare time constructively, to educate myself through programs, online courses, and books. Of course, I have written out a list of goals for the year and every day, on my to do list, there are a few things that I want to do everyday to move toward those goals. I have been doing this for over 30 years. Well, I was working on a course about being clear on your goals and plans, and I found out I have been doing it wrong. For over 30 years! 😩 My list isn’t bad for minor things but for big goals and ideas, I need to change what I am doing so I can track my progress better.
I recently took a course called, “How to get crystal clear on your goals and plans” by Brandon Hakim. He introduces a new way to organize your big goals and track your progress on a daily basis. In the following order, you are to write out your big goal for the year. Under that write down your deadline, every project needs a deadline. A deadline gives you incentive, a challenge, and a stopping point. Then I am suppose to write out what I want to get done that day, just one thing, in detail. At the end of the day, I am to log what I did get done…
Not what I didn’t get done. You don’t want to be negative toward yourself, this could cause adverse effects. I am also suppose to write out the step by step process to achieve that goal for the day and also jot down the time block I will spend on that goal. Last there is a section to reflect on why you didn’t get done, that day, what you had planned. This will help you see where you can improve the next day.
We all do this in our heads, but I really like this idea of writing it down because it makes it a lot easier to see where the error was. And what you need to fix to move closer to your goal the next day.
I am going to apply this method in all areas of my life. For instance, I write out a menu every week. I used to list breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks for 7 days at a time. After doing the keto lifestyle for so long, I now only list dinners during the week and then breakfast and dinner for the weekend. After listening to the course, I believe, following this method to build my weekly eating and exercise plan will be more effective. I also agree with the instructor , that taking it one step further and assigning a time block to any activity will also be quite effective. I’m going to implement that as well and let you know how it goes.

I thrive on a schedule. Loosey goosey, isn’t my style. Don’t get me wrong, I like to lay back and play like anyone else. But I know if there is something I want to achieve, I need a very structured day. Otherwise, I am just floundering through my day, my day turns into weeks, my weeks into months, and my months into a year. I am tired of looking back at the end of the year and wondering what I did with all that time. Using this method, even if I don’t achieve everything I wanted, I know I will be a better person at the end of the year.
Yes, it is already April, but it is never too late to start. Anything we do, over the next 8 months, will make us better than what we were 4 months ago, yesterday, and even today.
Let’s transform together,
Chauna
